The Green Business Program ~ Monterey County
The Monterey Bay Area Green Business Program in Monterey County is a multimedia (soil, water, and air) pollution prevention effort that creates a positive relationship between government, the public, and the business community. It is an incentives-based program designed to encourage businesses to meet or exceed environmental standards.
The Green Business Program would like to recognize those businesses leading the way in the environmental field within Monterey County. Their good work will inspire other businesses to follow their example. We want to show that businesses can be both green and profitable-and good members of our communities.
To be certified "green," participating businesses must be in compliance with regulatory agencies and meet program criteria for conserving resources, preventing pollution and minimizing waste. Our program assists, recognizes and promotes businesses that choose to operate their businesses in a more environmentally responsible way. We offer motivated businesses an easy-to-use framework for improving environmental performance.
The Green Business Program was created in 2003. It initially targeted auto repair shops, of which two shops have been certified so far. We’re hoping to add restaurants and other businesses in the hospitality industry in the near future.
